Meet Your Instructor & Get in Touch

Hi, I’m Allan

As a driving instructor in Dunfermline, I genuinely enjoy helping people understand the parts of learning to drive they find difficult. I became a driving instructor in 2019, and since then I’ve taught learners of all ages, abilities and confidence levels — and discovered that no two people learn to drive in quite the same way.

Why I Chose to Specialise

Over the years, I’ve found that the most rewarding part of being a driving instructor is helping learners who need a little extra support. That might be someone who is nervous or anxious about driving, or someone who simply learns differently from the traditional approach.

This led me to spend more time learning about neurodiversity and the different ways people process information and develop new skills. I regularly undertake CPD focused on neurodiversity, as well as techniques that can help anxious learners feel calmer and more in control behind the wheel.

It’s also one of the main reasons I decided to specialise in automatic driving lessons. Removing the clutch and gear changes allows us to concentrate more on the road, decision-making and building confidence at a pace that suits the individual learner.

A Different Approach to Learning

I don’t believe there’s one single way to teach someone to drive. If something isn’t clicking, I’ll change the way I explain or demonstrate it until we find an approach that works for you.

For learners who benefit from more visual or practical ways of learning, I use a range of tools during lessons. These include mini toy cars to demonstrate road positioning and manoeuvres, whiteboards for sketching junctions and situations, tablet apps, and specially prepared diagram folders with plain, uncluttered backgrounds to help reduce visual overstimulation and sensory overload.

These methods can be particularly helpful for neurodiverse learners, but they’re available to any learner who finds them useful. The aim is simple — to make things easier to understand, reduce pressure and help you become a confident, independent driver.

What You Can Expect From Your Lessons

My lessons are relaxed, friendly and focused on making progress without unnecessary pressure. You’ll never be expected to understand something simply because it has been explained once — if we need to stop, talk something through, draw it out or try a completely different approach, that’s exactly what we’ll do.

I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and learning at your own pace. Ultimately, the goal isn’t just to help you pass your driving test — it’s to help you become a safe and confident driver who feels comfortable making decisions independently.
